What is stopgoat?
stopgoat is a browser extension for Google Chrome that replaces infinite scrolling on six social sites with a calm, single-card view and regular mindful breaks.
Instead of a feed that never ends, you see one post in the middle of the screen with a Next button. Every few posts, a short animated nature scene appears with the words "think · breathe · feel", then your next post. You can save posts worth keeping, doodle in the margins, and adjust motion, colour and contrast to what feels comfortable.
What is doomscrolling, and how does stopgoat help you stop?
Doomscrolling is scrolling on and on through a feed, often long after it stopped being useful or fun. stopgoat stops it by removing the endless scroll: you move through posts one at a time, and every few posts a short nature break gives you a moment to decide whether to keep going.
Endless feeds are built so there's never a natural place to stop. stopgoat puts those places back. By default you get a 10-second break after every 5 posts. The break isn't a lock: you can skip it, and you can always turn stopgoat off. It just makes each next post a choice rather than a reflex.
Who is stopgoat best for?
stopgoat is best for people who scroll more than they mean to, but don't want to delete their accounts or block the sites completely.
- People who lose time to autoplaying feeds such as Reels, TikTok and Shorts.
- People trying to break a doomscrolling or "brain rot" habit on their computer.
- People practising digital minimalism who still want to keep up with friends, communities and news.
- People who find busy, fast-moving feeds overwhelming. stopgoat has reduced-motion, dark and high-contrast options, and full keyboard control.
It isn't a parental-control tool, and it doesn't work on phones or in the social media apps.
Can stopgoat help with "brain rot"?
"Brain rot" is internet slang for the foggy, drained feeling after hours of fast, low-effort content. stopgoat can't change what's on the sites, but it slows the stream down: one post at a time, and a pause every few posts to notice how you feel.
Many people find the pauses alone break the trance: you look up, take a breath, and decide on purpose whether to keep going. stopgoat makes no medical claims; it changes the design of the feed, it isn't a treatment.
What is the 14-day Wind-Down?
The 14-day Wind-Down is an optional stopgoat Pro program, like a couch-to-5K for scrolling: breaks start small and grow a little each day for two weeks.
- Day 1: a 5-second break every 10 posts.
- Each day after: breaks come a little sooner and last a little longer.
- Day 14: a 30-second break after every post, and a special break waiting at the finish.
The first time you open a supported site each day, a short reminder shows which day you're on and what today's breaks will be.
How can I cut down on scrolling gradually, instead of quitting cold turkey?
Taper it, in small steps. stopgoat's 14-day Wind-Down does this for you, a little like titration: each day the breaks come a little sooner and last a little longer, so every change is small enough to stick.
Quitting social media all at once often doesn't last, and the urge comes back. Reducing step by step, and learning to notice the urge to keep scrolling without acting on it, tends to be kinder and more lasting. You can also set your own pace: Pro lets you choose how often breaks come and how long they last.
Is stopgoat a mindfulness or meditation app?
Not exactly. stopgoat isn't a meditation course, but every Mindful Break is a short pause to think, breathe and feel: a small moment of mindfulness in the middle of your feed.
A break shows a calm nature scene for a few seconds. You can simply watch it, take a slow breath, and notice whether you still want to keep scrolling. If you already meditate, it's a gentle way to bring that awareness into your browsing.
Which sites and languages does stopgoat work with?
stopgoat works on Reddit, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube Shorts and X (Twitter) in Google Chrome on a computer, with each site in English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Turkish or Russian.
- Reddit: your feeds, one post at a time.
- Instagram: Home and Reels.
- TikTok: the For You feed.
- Facebook: the Home feed and Reels.
- YouTube: Shorts.
- X: the Home timeline.
stopgoat's own buttons, settings and breaks appear in your browser's language when it's one of those thirteen, and in English otherwise.
How is stopgoat different from a site blocker, a screen-time limit or a digital detox?
Site blockers, time limits and digital detoxes cut you off; stopgoat keeps the sites usable but takes away the endless, automatic part.
A blocker works until you switch it off, a timer ends in the middle of whatever you were doing, and a detox lasts until it ends. stopgoat changes the shape of the feed itself: one post, a clear Next button, and regular pauses. You still see messages from friends, your communities and the news. You just stop drifting through them.
Does stopgoat block ads?
No. stopgoat isn't an ad blocker. Sponsored posts stay in the feed where the site puts them, shown one at a time like every other post, with the site's own "Sponsored" label kept in view.
The sites you use are paid for by advertising, and stopgoat leaves that alone. It doesn't hide, remove or reorder ads. Each one gets the same calm card as any other post, its label stays visible, and tapping an ad takes you back to it on the site itself, so the site and the advertiser count every view and click exactly as they normally would.
That fits what stopgoat is for. It isn't about hiding things from you; it's about noticing what you take in. With one post at a time and a pause every few posts, everything you see, ads included, gets a moment of your attention, and you decide whether it deserves more.
Does stopgoat collect my data?
No. stopgoat has no accounts, analytics or tracking, and everything it saves stays on your computer.
stopgoat rearranges the page you're already looking at, inside your own browser. It never sends us the posts you see, what you type, who you follow or where you browse. If you buy Pro, payment is handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe. Read the full privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
Does stopgoat work on phones?
No. stopgoat is a Chrome extension for desktop and laptop computers. It does not run in mobile browsers or in the social media apps.
Does stopgoat work in Microsoft Edge or Firefox?
stopgoat is available for Google Chrome. Versions for Microsoft Edge and Firefox are being prepared.
Does stopgoat change my accounts or what the sites show me?
No. stopgoat only changes how the page looks in your own browser. Your accounts, follows and each site's recommendations are untouched, and turning stopgoat off shows the site exactly as it was, on the same post.
Can I turn stopgoat off?
Yes. The switch in stopgoat's top bar turns it off for that site straight away, and on again the same way.
Does stopgoat work if my social media is in another language?
Yes, in thirteen languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, Turkish and Russian. stopgoat's own buttons and settings follow your browser's language.
What happens to my saved posts if I uninstall stopgoat?
Everything stopgoat saves lives only in your browser, so uninstalling deletes it. Use Treasures, then Back up & restore, to save a backup file first. You can restore it later, in the same browser or another.
Is stopgoat made by Reddit, Meta, TikTok, Google or X?
No. stopgoat is an independent product of A Good Prompt to Live In, LLC and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by any of those companies.
Can I cancel stopgoat Pro, and is there a refund?
You can cancel any time from stopgoat Settings, then Plan, then Manage, and keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. If Pro isn't right for you, email support@stopgoat.com within 14 days of a charge for a full refund of that charge.
